eJuice 101: 3 Vaping Liquid Ingredients You Should Avoid

Although the history of vaping is much longer and more interesting than most people realize, it's only really come to prominence in the last decade. Because of that, there are still important facts that not everyone is aware of.

When it comes to vaping liquid ingredients, there's a lot to consider. If you're looking to vaping as a healthier alternative to smoking, there are things you should know.

Here's a brief guide to 3 vaping liquid ingredients you should steer clear of.

Why Are Some Vaping Liquid Ingredients Worse?

Before we examine which ingredients are the most topic, it's important to establish what exactly is so bad about them and how scientists determined that.

Without getting into heavy scientific jargon, researchers tested a few ingredients on a couple different types of white blood cells. They looked at how those ingredients affected oxygen production and other aspects of the cell.

The results showed that a few chemicals, in particular, had noticeably adverse effects on the cells. In these especially bad cases, scientists showed that they caused inflammation, cellular toxicity, and significantly decreased the cell's ability to produce oxygen.

What this means for you is that certain liquids pose a higher chance of adversely affecting your health over time. The cells the scientists tested are specifically connected to the respiratory system. Prolonged exposure to them could pose a significant threat to your lungs.

Now that you know what these ingredients can do to you, let's take a look at which ones pose the highest risk.

1. Cinnamaldehyde

As the name suggests, this chemical is used to impart vape juice with a cinnamon flavor. Unfortunately, as tasty as it is, it's also one of the most toxic vape liquid ingredients out there.

Of the several compounds scientists tested, cinnamaldehyde showed the most toxicity with both cell types tested. It also showed some of the highest results when it came to limiting a cell's ability to produce oxygen.

Even though cinnamon flavored vapes are especially tasty, they also seem to be especially dangerous. It's probably best to avoid picking up any cinnamon liquid in the near future.

2. O-Vanillin

O-Vanillin was another one of the most toxic compounds researchers studied. It was found to induce comparable levels of cell toxicity and oxygen restriction as cinnamon flavored liquids.

Though it's slightly less toxic than cinnamon, the differences are minor. You should still avoid this one.

Vanilla is a very popular flavor among kids and adults alike. Luckily, with more comprehensive research coming to light, the FDA is better equipped to keep potentially dangerous vape flavors away from kids.

3. Pentanedione

Last but not least is the chemical used in butter-flavored liquids. Pentanedione had similar results to the previous two chemicals discussed.

While buttery flavors are certainly appealing, it's not worth the trade-off. Next time you find yourself shopping for vape liquids, perhaps don't go with the buttered popcorn flavor.

Now What?

Now that you know what vaping liquid ingredients to avoid, what's next? Well, now you just have to kick back and enjoy yourself!

But vaping isn't totally self-explanatory. There's a lot to know. If you're just starting out in the vaping game, keep reading for some awesome beginner tips.
