New York Gov. Expedites Ban on Flavored Vape Products

New York Gov. Expedites Ban on Flavored Vape Products

Last week, President Trump announced plans to ban flavored vape products at the federal level. In a tweet over the weekend, Trump seemed to clarify his position that he wasn't against vaping, but did not want to make sure it was "safe for all,":

Even if Trump did pass such a bill, it would have to get approved by the Senate and Congress before getting passed into law. This process will typically take 12 to 24 months, which means there isn't an immediate threat to flavored vape products at the federal level; however, lawmakers are pushing for flavor bans at the state level and these can take effect much quicker.

In the most recent event, New York Governor Cuomo has taken executive action to ban flavored vape products across the state. The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives Association (CASAA) reports that the bill is being fast-tracked by Cuomo and includes the following initiatives:

  • “State Police and Department of Health (DOH) partner to immediately ramp up enforcement efforts against retailers who sell to underage youth – possibilities of criminal penalties.
  • “Advances legislation to eliminate deceptive marketing of e-cigarettes to children and underage youth.
  • “DOH Commissioner, Dr. Zucker, will hold an emergency meeting with PHHPC to ban e-cigarette flavors.”

If passed, this bill could produce an immediate 90-day ban on the sale of flavored vape products and enforcement of the law could begin as early October 4th of this year.

While this bill will not put an end to New York's teen vaping issue, it will have a catastrophic impact on the vape industry in New York.

Consumers will be cut off from the products that helped them to stop smoking and NY vape shop owners would be forced to close their doors due to the decline in sales.

This will have not only a negative financial impact for thousands of New York residents, but it could also lead to an increased number of teen cigarette smoking, which has decreased by a whopping 28.4% over the last year alone. Vaping has been a thorn in the side of big tobacco corporations, but with the crushing blow this ban would deliver to the e-cigarette industry in New York, big tobacco could begin to regain their influence.

We cannot allow this ban to happen in New York or in any other state. Vaping has changed the lives of millions of Americans, with flavors being one of the strongest contributing factors. If lawmakers pass these harmful bans on flavored vape products, it will reverse all the progress that has been made by this industry.

I quit smoking cigarettes 8 years ago and started vaping. I have always ordered my juices from reliable and reputable companies and have never had any problems with my respiratory system. If they ban e-juices, I will be forced to start smoking cigarettes again. I am 54 years old, I should be able to make my own choices whether I would like to vape or not. Vaping was never meant for children or teens. Just because they were able to obtain electronic cigarettes or vaping mods, we adults should not be punished. Ticket their parents, ticket the teen just like they do for cigarettes!!!

I began smoking in early junior high school. I’ve tried every method to quit smoking & there is nothing that helped me to be smoke free, except vaping! I currently have COPD from smoking which causes a lot of complications. After 40 years of smoking cigarettes I was finally able to complete completely quit because I started vaping! Vaping tastes & smells good & is healthier than smoking.

Vaping helps the physical addiction & the taste helps me to never want a cigarette again! It’s almost 1 yr that I’ve quit smoking & I feel so much better.
I don’t think the main problem is vaping cause my ID is checked for every purchase I make. I think the problem is under age children that vape and that’s where your focus needs to be. Then the solution would change. If vaping is banned, it will kill me & others fast.
I hope further research could be done on the problem of vaping I look for additional solutions.

I started smoking cigarettes in my early teens. I had health issues from smoking cigarettes. Chronic Bronchitis which doesn’t make breathing easy. I tried to quit smoking for years. I started with the menthol vape three years ago because it tasted like a cigarette a brand I smoked Menthol. I switched to a fruit flavor and now I got myself to the lowest nicotine. I know the vape store I go to is fully legit . The owner and his employees don’t give there products to teenagers. I’ve been in the store when underage teenagers came into there store. They were quickly told to leave since they had no ID. This is wrong to put people out of jobs and in financial stress. These kids are getting carded at well established places and turning to making there own or buying off the street. This ban is going to cause more deaths

Why ban something not causing any health problems, with anybody in any country. These states baning flavors are going to creat a bigger black market, which in return will creat a bigger problem with people (teens) getting ahold of dangerous unregulated products.

Vaping had been the only way I have been able to successfully quit smoking without having side effects. Prescription alternatives massage l made me sick and either did not work or haff other bad side effects and over the counter options either made me jittery or uncomfortable. While it is unfortunate that people have tainted some products and made them unsafe to use. It would be a greater disservice to those of us that these flavors have lowered the amount of chemicals we put into our bodies to feed our nicotine addiction. Please allow these safer alternatives to remain. Thank uppity

I was an avid smoker for 25 years. I was so proud to stop and vaping helped me to do that. Mainly the flavored e juice. Until the flavors I would go back and forth from cigs to vaping. But once I started to buy the flavor I quit smoking all together. Now I have energy to walk breathe and exercise!

This flavor ban is madness. Misinformation is leading to the downfall of this country in ALL aspects, it’s even down to vaping. Madness.
