End of Summer DIY Eliquid Recipes
As the tumultuous summer of 2020 winds to a close, we thought we’d kick off the end of the sweltering heat with some nostalgic e-liquids that you can make yourself! With just a few ingredients and our trusty recipes, you can enjoy refreshing clouds made in the comfort of your own home! We've done an article about DIY e-liquids earlier this year (which you can check out here ) and thought we'd add in another one. But before we dive back into the world of DIY e-liquids, let’s take a quick recap of where you can get the ingredients and what to do with them.
WHAT DO I NEED?
Whether you’re a beginning vape mixologist or a hardcore conniseur, recipes can be a great way to craft your very own e-liquid. You can either use them as a way to find new e-juices or use them as a springboard to create your own vape juice as you like it. But you’ll need to have some basic supplies. You’ll need vegetable glycerin (VG), propylene glycol (PG), flavorings, and nicotine (if you prefer a throat hit when you vape). You can also use special DIY vape juice tools like graduated cylinders, an e-liquid mixer, chubby gorilla bottles, and syringes when you make your e-juice. The website https://liquidnicotinewholesalers.com/supplies.html is a great place to get these particular tools, as well as the liquid nicotine, VG, and PG. You can also use this site for flavoring, but most mixologists (myself included) prefer to go to The Perfumer’s Apprentice for their flavor needs. Now that you know what you need, let’s check out some of the following recipes!
WHERE CAN I FIND E-LIQUID RECIPES?
A simple google search can help you discover a fascinating world of DIY vape juices, but they may not all be good. To simplify this search process, I’ll share one of my preferred sites and let you get comfortable with the site before checking out others: https://e-liquid-recipes.com . I particularly liked this site because it’s like social media for DIY vapers. Anyone can upload a recipe, anyone can comment, and you can even tweak a recipe to your liking with the simple click of the Adapt button (the wrench icon).
Surprisingly, Pinterest also has a lot of DIY recipes in the form of pictures and screenshots. I noticed that the majority were from the website mentioned above, Eliquid Recipes. However, a few were recipes from a site called Pinup Vapors, but they seemed a little sparse on the details and it looked like some of the instructions were in Russian. You’re more than welcome to try making recipes based on just those screenshots, but I prefer a little more information when making an e-liquid from scratch.
And then you can always check here for DIY recipes that I’ll be uploading over the next few weeks. I’ll be making it a theme of the week for something new and exciting to try. For this week, I’ll be focusing on the end of the summer flavors that might whet your whistle, such as watermelon blends, sweet summer strawberry e-liquids, and refreshing menthols that no summer should ever be without. For the following week, it might be a Marshmallow Madness, followed by a Cereal Celebration, a Fall Frenzy, and of course, a Harrowing Halloween! But you’ll just have to check back and see what recipes I upload!
HOW DO I READ THE E-LIQUID RECIPES?
Now that we’ve gone over what you’ll need and where to find these recipes, it might be a little intimidating to follow DIY e-liquid instructions. But for the most part, the recipe instructions are actually pretty easy to read! The recipes on https://e-liquid-recipes.com are wonderfully easy to read and adjust to your preferences. For example, you can either have the recipes set to be created using grames (for which you’ll need a kitchen scale) or by drops. If you’re not looking to invest in the kitchen scale, the drops option will be cheaper, albeit more time consuming. Plus with some of these recipes, they can get quite high in the count, so you’ll need to make sure that your count is accurate.
You may notice that some e-liquid recipes have three letters near the flavor like CAP, TPA, TFA, etc. Those are abbreviations for which brand of flavoring that is. For example, TPA stands for The Perfumer’s Apprentice, CPA for Capella, and so forth. Any abbreviation that you see and don’t recognize, you can type in a google search (i.e. CAP ejuice = Capella flavors e-liquid concentrate).
You can also adjust the recipe by changing the nicotine level from 3mg to 6mg, adjust the VG/PG ratio from 70/30 to 60/40, as well as the desired amount of e-liquid to make, from 10mL to 120mL. These little adaptations are extremely customizable, so if you want an ejuice with 4mg of nicotine in 64/36 VG/PG ratio in 57mL, you can do it! It may take a while before you’re satisfied with your creation, but the possibilities are literally endless.
Lastly, you should let your ejuice steep for a few days before you try it. A lot of these e-liquid recipes don’t include that in the recipe, so you’ll need to figure out what your preferred steep time is. You can also check out the comments to see what other people tried and liked. But don’t give up on an e-liquid flavor just because you tried it immediately after making it and didn’t like it. Vape juice is like wine...you need to let it steep and intensify before you can really enjoy it. And now that we’ve gone over the basics, let’s check out some of these exciting e-liquid recipes that you can make yourself!
DIY E-LIQUID RECIPES
For our first recipe, I found one called Summer Delight . I’m a huge fan of fruit flavored e-liquids and certain dessert flavors, so this one automatically appealed to me. Kiwi Strawberry, Strawberry Banana, and Strawberry Custard are the three flavors that make up this e-liquid. It’s got a VG/PG ratio of 70/30, the most popular ratio, and it makes 120mL of e-liquid. I have the recipe set to drops instead of grams so you can see the difference, but feel free to swap it over to grams if you prefer to measure with a kitchen scale instead of counting out drops.
Next, I found an e-juice recipe called End of Summer , very fitting since we’re coming to the close of Summer 2020. And just like the entirety of 2020 so far, this e-liquid is a little difficult to craft (with five different flavourings) and comes with a harsh throat hit (due to the 6mg of nicotine from the original post). Again, you can always adjust the nicotine level, bottle size, and VG/PG ratio to how you see fit. The original vape mixologist has it set to 6mg, 80/20, and 60mL, so that’s what you’ll see here. The flavor profile is exquisite, requiring a Lemon Sicily, Raspberry, Sour, Sugar Daddy, and Watermelon/Red Summer for the flavorings. Some of these flavorings require a bit of digging to find, but you can substitute your own flavorings if you prefer to keep things simple. I also posted this recipe with grams instead of drops so you can see the difference and choose which option is better for you.
Lastly, I found a DIY recipe called Last Taste of Summer . This vape juice recipe calls for a cactus flavoring and comes in a unique 4mg of nicotine, so I knew this would be a unique flavor! Along with cactus, this vape juice requires apple, peach, pear, strawberry sweet, and sucralose! I haven't seen sucralose in any of the other recipes, so it was a nice surprise to see that this vape juice does utilize it. This particular flavor is 70/30 and makes only 25mL, which is probably a good thing (try it before making too much).
CONCLUSION
